If you’re looking for more storage, or a simple way to organize your garage, installing shelves might be a good option for you.

First, you’ll want to measure the items in your garage that you plan on storing. For instance, if you have a box you want to put on the shelf, measure the box and decide how much space you need before installing the shelves. Using a 16″ depth is a good bet.

You’ll also want to measure the distance from the ceiling when looking at what you’re wanting to store on the shelves.

Use a stud finder to mark each location of the studs in the wall so you’ll know where to start.

If you’re using pre-cut wood, or shelving units, follow the directions for installation.

Otherwise, using plywood makes for a solid shelf. Particleboard will work, too, but it won’t be as durable as a solid piece of wood.

Be sure the boards are screwed, or nailed, to the braces and soon you’ll be ready to start storing your items in the garage.
